Venom #1 (2016)

Did Venomlee just (indiscriminantly) kill Mac Gargan here? Interesting ties to the Spider-verse reestablished with the mention of Tombstone and the latex lady (ie.Black Cat) crime boss. Something (draining) must have happened to Venom after CW II #8, eh? As soon as the Symbiote gets his strength/energy back he should probably dump Lee given his lethal protective nature unless Editorial wants this to be just copied Carnage series where the evil human host is large and in charge.

Nothing notably impressive about the relaunch art but not really complaining about it (yet). Pretty standard crazytendril visuals not coloured/choreographed particularly special but not outlandishly offputting.

It was a solid but mediocre premiere. A welcome retrovamping of Venom - anything to erase the Space Cowboy direction of the Klyntar Kid. The potential for the series will depend on what directions Marvel wants the Symbiote to go and how much established character canon/development is incorporated/acknowledged. Going to reserve judgement - probably give #2 a 2nd chance. How 'bout you?
