Odin has a long history and bad habit of keeping important secrets from everyone including Tho. Usually, these secrets come out when he is not around to deal with them leaving the rest of Asgard scrambling around for a solution.

For a god of wisdom, this is pretty stupid. Has a reason ever been giving for this? If not, what would a no-prize answer be?

1. A secret shared is no longer a secret

2. Some secrets need to be kept

3. Some secrets can spell disaster if they become known

4. Some secrets and be humiliating or embarrassing to the point of destroying one's life/career if they come out

5. Some people can't handle the truth, hence the secrets stay secret.

If you reveal your secret, you limit your ability to manipulate people and gods like pieces on a chess board. A good example of this is when he orchestrated events involving Ego-Prime, a plot which spanned multiple plot-lines.

He's primarily been doing this to forestall Ragnarok, but beyond that, he's been doing it so long that the game is all he knows. He's always using one catastrophic event as an opportunity to forestall another.

Odin's secrets have time and again come to bite Asgard in the butt. It would have been helpful is at least Thor, the guy who is suppose to run things when Odin isn't around would know about them.

A few such problems include:

The Mangog
The Celestials
The Lost Gods
The Dark Gods
The Serpent
The Mares

Odin's schemes rely on Odin being around to play them. Should anything happen to him, as has occured Asgard is up the creek. Thor is supposed to to be the crown prince and chief protector of Asgard. Yet he more often than not is unaware of any ongoing threat and unprepared for it when it strikes...usually because Odin' never bother ed to tell him. Is there a good reason for this or is it some foolishness on Odin's part? Is Odin so used to keeping secrets that he ultimately trust no one...not even his chose successor.

understands that sometimes harm must be done to prevent a greater harm.

Ex: Rorschach was stopped with finality in The Watchman
