Thor knows a tiny bit of magic. He can speak the incantations required to initiate the god-blast and to summon berserker rage.

Although its less relevant to Marvel's Thor, the reason magic was not widely used among the Norse gods was because the vikings considered it unmanly.

Worship drifted away from Odin and towards Thor for several reasons, one of them being Odin's use of magic ('Seid' or 'Rune Magic').

Could Thor learn magic as well as Loki or Dr. Strange? Probably not.

Part of successfully learning a skill is an interest in the subject and to meet a goal that requires the dedication. Since Thor generally surpasses the greatest Asgardian-affiliated sorcerers, he wouldn't have the necessary drive to become as accomplished as Loki.

Loki's rise power is due (in part) to his absorbing power from his former mentor. He took a short cut. It's possible he may not have surpassed Amora or approached Thor-level power without doing so... who knows.

Karnilla has some affiliation with the Norns and learned their secrets. Odin underwent considerable sacrifice, and his sorcery is backed up by the Odin-Power (note that King Thor, outside of Oeming's version, never really uses magic as Odin does). The Enchanters, possibly the greatest sorcerers in the Asgardian dimension, employ talismans to augment their sorcery.

IOW, it would be a waste of Thor's time...

I'm lost, is not what the Asgardians do magic? Just like people who have varying talents in varying degrees so do magic users. I think it would be easier for being like Thor to use magic because it is already in their nature.

Do they use real magic, or use extreme science/tech. liked the new gods though?

So who would be considered to be their greatest magic user, Karnilla now?

Karnilla and Loki are probably in the same ballpark, with Loki having better combat magic.

The Enchanters, if they are Asgardian renegades as I suspect, would be on another level.

They use magic and sorcery all the time.  You mean is Loki only able to do spells because he's using advanced technology like computers and the like? I mean obviously not.  What would give you that idea?

The Enchanters?

The Enchanters are a group of sorcerers who employ a 'Living Talisman' to augment and channel their magic to a level beyond that of all Asgardian sorcerers except Odin. They are actually capable of bypassing the Worthiness enchantment on Mjolnir, and have strength enough to halt Mjolnir strikes on a level beyond that of Superman or Nefaria.

The eldest of the Enchanters challenged Odin for supremacy of Asgard. Odin ended up killing him as they fought over the scepter.

They were created by Stan and Jack, yes. The original three Enchanters were Forsung (the eldest), and his brothers Brona and Magnir. Jurgens brought them back during his run and revealed that another Enchanter, Enrakt, was training but was not advanced enough to participate in the battle.

Enrakt freed his brothers after the original battle (minus Forsung, who was slain and in Hel), and possessed and corrupted Mjolnir from within. Enrakt split his essence in two and also took over the body of a sorceress was slain and also a brief lover of Thor's after the 'Heroes Reborn' era.

Enrakt teamed-up with his brothers and they attacked Odin in a weakened state, and almost defeated him. The Scarlet Witch allied with Odin and Thor and the three of them defeated the Enchanters. The Scarlet Witch had not yet developed reality-manipulating powers, but the Enchanters were effectively allergic to Chaos magic that she wielded, so she took down Magnir.

Prior to this, Forsung was briefly 'resurrected' by Kurse who has usurped Hela's realm. He fought and overpowered the High Evolutionary.

I forget what happened to Enrakt, who had possessed the deceased body of a sorceress. Brona and Magnir were banished to the exact same prison that they were banished to in the original story (an odd choice for Odin). They are not dead, though.

The Shadow Gods are largely a mystery. They could have some connection with the Beyonders or something else entirely.

The Shadow gods god realms, were just affecting Asgard, not any other god realms, nor earth?

The Shadow Gods seemed to manifest as Asgardian gods, and seemed primarily interested in Asgard's cycle. However it seems unlikely they would not feed on other pantheons in similar ways.

Seems that there was a much more involved story that could have been done between them and say asgard and Olympus!

That's for the movies not in the comics. I can't think of the Asgardians using science type magic since their inception by Stan & Jack. Its always been self derived magic. Thor can learn magic just like Loki but Thor's power set allows him to excel at physical displays of power and he doesn't need/rely on magic power.
