WOOOHOOO!
Just when I was getting scared they were making this too much like the books, they swerve! Awesome.
And it's Coral! A plus!

You can call that a win if you want. While I don't enjoy a lot of the comic Carl's arc is one of the more interesting bits.
I do feel bad for the actor. He's 18, just bought a house and then they fired him.

I just hope he paid off all of that house, because I'm skeptical he'll find more acting work.
Oddly though, Coral was in that flashforward of long-bearded Rick. So, maybe that whole thing is a hallucination. Or maybe this death/departure story is hype.

Nah I think the next episode will be his last. I'm kinda wondering if Carl will live for most of the episode instead of dying right away. Like the next episode is Carl's one last day where he gets in everything he wants to do (pudding, Enid etc) before he kicks the bucket.
I didn't see Carl in the flash forward or whatever. But my mind wanders during this show.

Coral has the main part of the conversation with Rick in that scene.
Rick comes into the living room.
Rick: You turned off the alarm.
Michonne: They can manage without you for one more week.
Coral (walks right in front of the camera): We're all playing hooky.
Rick: All of us?
Coral: Hey, I didn't put that song on. (Weird Al's "Another One Rides the Bus")
Pretty sure he's talking about little Judith (years older), who we see in a later part of the scene. She's playing hooky, too, and I guess likes Weird Al.
Wonder if we'll get a Coral ghost like we did with Lori.

Okay first you DO realize you are calling Carl, Coral right?
Seriously though, I do sense some off screen politicking in this. They seemed to indicate that he was on the show for more years to come and then this....
Was college going to interfere with filming?
Is the studio releasing him so that he can live his life? Noble, but somehow I sense that isn't the case.
Did the kid do something off camera that is perhaps best left a mystery?
Was the kid and his father looking for a bit too much money?
Or now that the kid is turning 18 perhaps labor laws, union rules, etc etc were going to kick in and start causing more interference?
Who knows?
What I am confident of is this: hope the kid invested wisely and pursues a good education at college because right now he is so typecast from the Walking Dead that if he isn't careful he WILL go the way of other childhood actors that were exploited by Hollywood and their parents who grew up and couldn't find anymore acting gigs.
Remember the show Different Strokes? Looks like the Willis actor has turned things around for himself, can't say the same about Dana Plato and Gary Coleman
Jodie Sweetin and the Olsen Twins from Full House, all still alive but could be considered damaged goods from their issues.
Anissa Jones from Family Affair, overdosed at age 18
Jonathan Brandis from Seaquest, another suicide issue
Sawyer Sweeten from Everybody Loves Raymond
Drew Barrymore
Lindsay Lohan
And more examples but I think the above are enough.
The Hollywood industry has absolutely no qualms at all about destroying or eating its young.

Every time he says Coral I have to remind myself he's intentionally misspelling Carl not Carol.

Rick says, "Coral." He oughtta know.
Anyway, I'm sure if there were anything bad about Chandler Riggs we would have heard about it. These things really cannot be kept a secret these days.
I won't rule out something financial about this decision. If so, then I think that sucks. AFAIK, he did sign a new contract and likely got a big raise like Lincoln and Reedus. Don't know.
But I'm not really losing any sleep over him leaving. For me, he's been the weakest part of TWD for many years. Meanwhile, the female cast members haven't been treated well, at all.

I feel bad for the actor but I'm ambivalent towards the character. He wasn't a character I liked or hated. He was just there.
