Subj: Invaders #4: Prof. Xavier WAS ALWAYS a jerk?
Posted: Sun Apr 14, 2019 at 02:34:10 pm EDT (Viewed 456 times)

Just when you didn't think Xavier could get more jerk-y. Well, many posters on 4channel never thought this secret origin addendum did NOT paint him any the worse for wear. The surprise reveals for this chapter may revolve more around Xavier than it did Namor - if not more. Here's 0-DAY copypasta posts that got my reacions for this... frustrating issue...

    The Secret History of Namor!

Also called Secret Retcontamination! Plus, more needless willainization of Charles Xavier.

I thought only Magneto called mutants Homo Superior.

Prof calling 'em that hurt my ears.

Hi I'm Charles Xavier, ready to rip your life to shreds because I'm a mutant supremacist!

It's not funny because it read true.

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)12:10:32 No.106929931
Namor's life is very tragic. When he's not being used or manipulated he is angry and makes it hard for people who actually care about him.

Character layering is a good thing. 'Course the Tommy Machan and Petersons element continues to be frustrating.

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)12:11:15 No.106929941
Is this out of character? I don't know what Xavier's current personality supposed to be.

It should be OOC but arguably hasn't been since that flashback/retcon story of when/why he tried to first recruit Weapon X.

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)12:15:38 No.106930009
    >Namor is erratic because he is traumatized by Tommy
    Very meta.

Having read #1-#4 and feel it would be completely fair if someone questions Tommy who? The Meta? Not sure what that means as a reply. But the Tommy factor has been completely unconvincing on various levels.

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)12:21:39 No.106930108
Byrne having to make up a reason for Namor's mood swings is still the funniest thing

Nah, that was a good unabtrusive (retcon) thing.

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)12:28:55 No.106930212
Something that bothers me is how Namor in, modern books, interacts with Doom. Doom caused Betty Dean's death and she was Namor's first human friend.

"..."makes strange bedfellows" and all that.

    Kid is named "Roman", huh?

Immediately thought of Image Comics' Brigade player Roman and his inspired naming (and twist to the opposite of how Stan Lee came up with Namor's name). Kind of a revenge plagurizing of plagurism?

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)12:44:09 No.106930451
Anyone remember when Xavier was a good guy, now any time he shows up or mentioned it is a portent of doom.

Back when everythig about the X-Franchise was GOOD.

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)12:53:26 No.106930581
Xavier is a rich white male. He can't be good again.

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)12:54:12 No.106930593
He was never a good guy

Disagree on 'never'.

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)12:54:42 No.106930604
yup, anyone who thought taht namor's mutant status would be retconned was an idiot.

Nah. Even if this re-reconfirms he is a mutant, it still makes more sense that he is a hybrid and should be genetically recognized, in some way, as different than the MU meaning of 'mutant'. Never likely to happen, though. What was the new argument that specifies why Squirrel Girl is NOT considered a mutant, again?

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)12:58:49 No.106930666
Young Xavier was a bit of a dickweed and very over-confident now. They're repainting him more in terms of how McAvoy plays him in the recent films. He means well but ultimately he still thought making children fight his war was a good idea.

Synergy silliness (when it's forced).

Intro: A mutant that can turn humans into mutants!

Presumably he died. He could've caused a mess of a huge racial divide if he'd lived. Of course, now that the specific one mutant's power concept is out there... Still, there've been variation of reliable transformation processes. And pretty much the idea of VAXX is the polar opposite...

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)15:16:58 No.106932774
Most it it could work, but the homo superior comment that people noted is the greatest screwup. That’s Magnetos doctrine. He might be arrogant about thinking telepaths are the most awesome thing ever, but he’d never say homo superior or try to use genus like that since telepathy generally forces the empathy to consider everyone an equal person on him.

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)16:36:31 No.106933982
So the real reason humans hate mutants and there are issues between mutants and everyone else was because Xavier was a mind tampering too - huh?

He really comes off as a cult leader, his proactive days are behind him. So now he preaches his message and gathers up children to be his weapons against the "society that wronged him"

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)16:36:46 No.106934011

That was a very CHEAP Wolverine circa IH181 cameo to throw in! Boo! Namedropping the Paul Destine issue and his ongoing influence on Namor is cool, though.

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)16:38:49 No.106934020
I thought Namor's secret would be him as some aquatic themed mutant that assumed he was in some way related to Atlanteans.

    >Intro: A mutant that can turn humans into mutants!
He just turns them into ferals, Magneto never really had any respect for mutants that just had random animal powers. And Sinister, High Evolutionary, Jackal, and a large assortment of other scientists can make animal powered people anytime they want.

    >repainting him more in terms of how McAvoy plays him
Lissen, jackass, without the training those kids got, they'd likely either been hunted down and killed, "disappeared" and experimented on by the government, or they'd have become threats to humanity.

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)17:01:59 No.106934388
    >Namor was a bearded hobo
The 60s were a different time.

Her father named her after Namor so her name is actually Namor but they call her Nay for short.

Seriously?! Hope not. Legally naming her 'Nay' is cool honoring respect. Shortening it from the legal name Namor would be a cruel 'Boy Named Sue' thing.

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)17:19:14 No.106934676
Most of them mutants did becomes threats to humanity...
Cyclops went full mutant rights and started attacking Avengers and Inhumans
Jean became an eldritch horror, nuked a planet, f***ed up the Shi'Ar, and ran amok in space
Warren became an Apocalypse cyborg that occasionally goes insane and attacks sh*t for no reason
    Iceman went gay
And they all forgive Magneto and make him their leader over and over again between times when he is not genociding countries, stealing and launching nukes, and all around trying to take over humanity

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)20:21:11 No.106937616
I like how Chip is doing olden Xavier. He still means well but he's still arrogant and effing up, not thinking about the consequences.

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)21:18:34 No.106938638
As much as writers don't seem to know the difference, I chalk this take up to young arrogant Xavier
It took an alien shooting rebar through his spine for him to learn a little humility

Interesting counter argument reference. Rebuttal: he was not that guy when courting Moira or Gabrielle.

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)23:53:19 No.106940816
    >remember when Xavier was a good guy
    Dude recruited child soldiers

Originally not really, but...

    Anonymous 04/10/19(Wed)23:58:24 No.106940887
    >remember when Xavier was a good guy
He's always been a creep. He wanted to mindwipe Blob for refusing to join, creeped on Jean, didn't tell his students how dangerous the Danger Room was, had what was basically a rape-dungeon set up, used FBI contacts to cover up collateral damage and made his ailing and infirm teammates mop up the mansion after Juggernaut attacked. All during the Silver Age.

Up until Morrison, Niles Caulder was comparatively a saint.

Well that's true, uhh...

Probably reposted some of these attachment observations:

Namore and Human Torch have been comics longest lasting love-hate couple if you think about it.

    How long til Bucky respawns?

Well, it won't be with that Anna. What a bonehead Man on the Wall fail that was misjudging her. It did make for a twist ending having her allied with Nay's son who is working for Admiral "Hard-ass".

    >Namor gets along with Doom
Yeah, that always rubbed me the wrong way.
Tiger Shark's "reformation" too. Namor should view him like Daredevil does Bullseye.
