    All-New, All-Different Avengers

Creative Team: Mark Waid, Mahmud Asrar & Adam Kubert

While the release of the FCBD issue All-New, All-Different Avengers #1 made it pretty clear that Mark Waid would be helming the new flagship Avengers comic, the series has now been confirmed by The Wall Street Journal. Waid will write the book, while Mahmud Asrar and Adam Kubert will alternate art duties (allowing the series to ship more than 12 issues a year). The team lineup will be the same as that of the FCBD issue (Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, Nova and Vision), though this series will explore the origin and formation of the team. The recent Nova villain Warbringer will serve as the team's first major threat.

“We get to do something that hasn’t been done since the beginning of the series back in 1963, which is we get to tell an origin story for the Avengers as the team rebuilds from the ground up,” Waid told the WSJ.

The new team is unique for several reasons, including the racially diverse lineup. “I think that potentially gives you a wider chance to connect with a wider spectrum of the audience who may be able to see and invest themselves in the characters,” Executive Editor Tom Brevoort said.

In addition, it seems that the team will no longer have access to either Avengers Tower or Stark or S.H.I.E.L.D. funding, leaving them juggling limited resources. They also have to contend with the fact that three members are teenagers and have to balance their school lives with their superhero activities.

While I like the line-up of Iron Man, Captain America (Falcon), Vision, Thor (Foster), Spider-Man (Morales), Ms. Marvel (Khan), and Nova (Alexander), I just hope there are a few more additions. Case in point:

1. Steve Rogers: what would the Avengers be without Steve? Nothing. He should be in as an adviser to the team. Just because he's old doesn't mean he's retired. Put Steve with the team he was born to lead.

2. Hawkeye: What would the Avengers be without its resident, trash-talking archer? Put him on the team as the issues progress.

3. Scarlet Witch: the team needs an older female and she's an essential Avenger.

4. Quicksilver: he should be on the team, too.

5. Hank Pym: he has to be on the team as well.

6. She-Hulk: I prefer her over Hulk.

7. Black Widow: I'd like to see her on the team as well.

8. Diamondback: she's overdue for membership.

9. X-23 as Wolverine: another character I wouldn't mind seeing.

10. Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel: she's an essential Avenger too.

11. Wasp: same as Hank.

12. Red Wolf: overdue for membership.
