Quote:I think Suicide Squad will come off better, for two reasons.
Quote:1) If it had been released 6 months ago, Ant-Man may have swung it just on virtue of being a Marvel film. Age of Ultron seems to have killed some of the enthusiasm for Marvel films, though, and may have been the start of a downward trend for them.
Quote:2) Suicide Squad has strong ties to Batman. And...Batman vs Ant-Man? Only ever going to be one winner there. If nothing else, everyone's going to want to see how this new Joker pans out.
I agree that Suicide Squad will gross more and that #2 is correct but #1 is not. How does Age of Ultron kill enthusiasm? It'll have made about $455 million domestically and $1.4 billion worldwide before it finishes its theatrical run. That's #8 and #4 all time, respectively. It has an 87% audience score on RottenTomatoes and a 7.9 user rating on IMDB, both pretty high scores, which is to say, first, most people who saw it liked it a good deal, and second, a whole lot of people saw it.
Yes, they certainly did. But less than the first movie, and the general consensus seems to be that it wasn't as good a film. That's the impression I get from talking to people, and on the websites (including this one).
That seems to be confirmed by the take on Avengers 2, which fell from the first film.
