I agree. But I was similarly underwhelmed by his Fantastic Four run, despite the critical acclaim. So why introduce the Starchild and Celestial Madonna plot? Was he attempting to upend Englehart's previous revelations? And what was the deal of Isaac Newton having sex with a Deviant called Morga? Was he trying to rewrite the tale of Phaedar similarly fathering Maelstrom on Morga which Gruenwald wrote some thirty years earlier? Just what was he up to?

Remind me what connected the Starchild to the Celestial Madonna. From what I remember the whole Starchild plot (a pregnant Celestial) was the thing I liked most about Hickman's SHIELD.

I didn't dislike Hickman's Fantastic Four . I don't think it was as good as everyone claims it is but it's still better than anything anyone else has done with the Fantastic Four since Byrne. I liked New Avengers until the issue that revealed Rabum Alal was Doom...that killed all interest I had in the entire series...and I had been enjoying it. Secret Wars sucks worse than anything I've ever read.

I did like the 2 SHIELD limited series though. It kind of reminded me of my favorite episode of the Venture Bros where it turns out the Guild of Calamitous Intent was founded by a secret society that included Mark Twain, Alestair Crowley, Oscar Wilde and that every great scientist and artist including Archimedes and Da Vinci has acquired the orb and improved upon it. I think the series may have even ripped the episode off...I seem to remember a floating orb Da Vinci designed being some sort of revelance in the SHIELD series.
