Their journy to the center of the Counter-Earth (or whatever depth they unclearly intended) felt boring and contrived. Does Tyke and Ladythor atomized the (unclearly blocking) obstacles in the tunnels? Could the descent into the 'bottomless' pit BE more awkwardly done? And if they only had a rocket to scout ahead, or gamma godlike limbs to test the landing, or access to long strands on line at their fingertips to lower non-flyers on... And WTH is Vizh's chest lighting up?

Clearly Vizh loves Viv and is understandably motivated to keep her safe - escpecially in this 'human' form. However, Vizh fortelling and troubling Viv with (lack of) details for her 'destined' death felt contentious and inoppurtune here.

Ani-men with identical pet ani-men is a... WEIRD last line of defense concept. They probably took 'the stairs' that Viv couldn't recall from the layout schematics, eh. And they're big battle showing against the Avengers & Champions left LOTS to be desired.

ENTER: The "Guardian" Son of High Evolutionary. The bad father rejects the good son. (Magus and Warlock dynamic, anyone?) Not an unwelcome or bad plot twist just not that original or compelling. His conversation with Viv that (anti-)parallels their family life had some merit. Undramatically, the countdown to Orbit Engine planet-smashing stole all the attention of the reader from EVERY other team member in the book. Clearly, the team must have misread the sitch - 'cuz why would H.E. be 'scared' of his son

VIV 'DIES' was easily the most and only entertaining element of the story. IMO, it was essentially undermined by that immediate epilogue reveal and the insulting lack of exposition of ANY of the aftermath to the point in time of the gravesite splashpage. So, Champions #15 is the conclusion and should have details there but the time that passed for the hero's returns to the gravesite would have a lot of must see details and reactions not to mention confirmation if there is an actual body buried that readers do not get in a sequentially satisfying storytelling way.

Merely a poser cover...

The High Evolutionary,I mean. Is he nuts again? He seems to be written very inconsistently. I kind of prefer him as NOT being such a villain. Has he been evolving cows again or something? He's certainly brought a lot to the Marvel Universe, if nothing else.
