Avengers 044

Being Gimmick Phoenix Host is much more promising and unique instead of a untested, carte blanche, Native American, deaf and female hero. Yeah right.

Roberto Reyes is the most powerful Ghost Rider that's ever been. Yeah right.

So. Panther IS chronologically still leader of Avengers as of this arc. That's been so clear. Yeah right.

An exciting 3 pages of inevitable-stalemate won't-really-get-hurt fight between Cap and Panther is better when it goes nowhere. Yeah right.

These final matches are all set on Earth as opposed to some earlier ones that would not affect nor appear amongst innocent humans. That's been so clear. Yeah right. Hmm... is PF really 100% to blame for this collateral damage or most of the power grabbing contestants?

"I AM..." was more dramatic a scene closer than an unclear intent and jarring cutaway. Yeah right. Were the 3 of them intending to shout "PHOENIX" in hopes of instant victory? Is this how Echo ended her match? Hmmph.

Shanna the Mommy is that dark a spirit. Heck, she'd be perfect for Savage Avengers membership. Yeah right.

Moon Girl is the choice to be running point from Avengers Tower. Yeah right.

Neutron Star radiation level inside Earth atmosphere? No problem. Downplay of Carol's Binary ability? Precident that Tony now has remote control of the dead Celestial should be seen as a big fix-all and/or power-play by many circles. Does that sound right?

Jane's success at containing Thor for a long time (shown in one panel)? Does that sound right?

It's okay that PF-Echo kindly takes away the power from Avengers but all-but-kills Namor doing it and appears to not care to fix any damage (even after Jean Grey's sound advice). Yeah right.

So cool to know Thor's true parentage mystery mom was all an unanswered tease. And better yet to claim his "Father" was "THUNDERBIRD"! Uhhh... yeah, right. Or was PF-Echo just convoluting things with her Cheyenne heritage included in the cryptics? Y'know what - it would have been SO MUCH BETTER if Bonita Juarez replaced Maya as contestant and was given the Phoenix mantle here! Espirita even has relatable clues in her origin already!

Ending the arc with Starbaby floating up makes so much fitting sense. Yeah right.

Kinda sorta okay bits:
-Cover art (moreso than the design choice).
-Winter Guard cameo (non-Krakoan) cameo.
-A bit of inferred characterization for newbie Red Widow.
-"Star-Mariner" has a nice ring to it and nod to PF-Namor in AvX.
-GR's attempt to reign in PF with an elongated Hellchain proved laughable.
-Echo has an untold story of training Atlantean martial arts.
-Title chrono-placement is before KiB event (even if Boy-Thing placement is so far wrong).

So basically it is a good thing I skipped this gimmick then.
