I think that Carol Danvers is one of the most inconsistent characters in the MU. First she was female military and the love interest of the original Captain Marvel. Then she was the editor of a not really feminist women's magazine. After the Rogue attack she struggled for a long time to regain her memories (nobody talks about this these days). Then she was the mentally unstable alcoholic (Warbird). After she changed her name to Captain Marvel she became the tough as nails military character who almost killed everybody during Civil War II. These days (penned by my beloved Kelly Thompson) she is the nice hero everybody just has to love. I like her this way, but it is hard to believe that all this is the same person. What do you think?

She didn't really struggle that long. Xavier restored her memories before she left the hospital after Rogue. She just didn't have any emotional connection to the memories. It's always been my opinion that this problem was more psychological than physical.

TBH, I thought she was a lot tougher in the Reed series BEFORE she changed her codename to Captain.

I don't find it very hard to accept any of it, because she's not really changed much. She's just had a whole lotta crap happen to her. She was great back in the 70s. Part of what got me into the Avengers was the her, Simon, and Beast trio.

I don't really care for the character, but I agree her best period was in the 70's, with the Perez Avengers. For me it was Avengers 200 that ruined her. She's not the only character out there who has been the victim of bad writing, but she is the only one with this icky combo of rape and incest forming a major chapter in her life. It's funny that it was Claremont - Carol's strongest champion - that removed her from the board with Rogue's introduction. That's how damaged she had become.

Pym Particle also has a strong point that her personality has been pretty different, depending on who writes her and what editorial wants for the character. Since before becoming Captain Marvel, editorial has wanted to make her the #1 female character at Marvel, and I just don't think she deserves it.

I'll say one thing, though - her black Ms. Marvel costume is one of the most iconic female costumes of all time.
