Okay, I just found out, Terry will be in the comics, but he will be part of an alternate Earth. Why he is even being introduced in the comics I do not understand? I also do not understand why DC keeps giving the mantle of Batman to pretenders when Dick Grayson thus far has been the only one shown capable of living up to being Batman and is by all rights the rightful heir to the Batman legend. 8\-\)

Yup

Presumably because he is a fun, well defined character who managed to sustain an highly popular animated series for three excellent seasons. More people whatched that show than probably the combined sales of the entire Bat-family of titles.

Because A) Dick Grayson has repeatedly said he doesn't want the role and B) It's a little obvious, using Terry allowed them to tell the story of a new Batman unencumbered by a Robin career

Batman beyond never saying what had happened to Dick (Beyond Bruce driving him away the way he drove everyone close to him away) was irritating, but him not becoming Batman doesn't seem that surprising.
