Since Batman has tremendous will-power, how come he was never offered a Green Lantern ring on a permanent basis? If he wants to rid Gotham City of crime on a permanent basis, why doesn't he just become a Green Lantern? He'd have more power that way, and the Gotham City villains would know they wouldn't stand a chance.

Does Batman not take a Green Lantern ring because he doesn't want to become too powerful? But wouldn't his willpower and strength of character prevent him from abusing such power?

Batman's obsession with fear and how scary he is to others might disqualify him from the post, in standard continuity.
