> Has to be the worst ending ever... if someone just shot my friend, stripped them, and forced their father to see it, I wouldn't be sitting there laughing with them. That was ridiculous... almost like they didn't know how to end it. I personally think it should have ended with Joker getting seriously wounded somehow (by his own carelessness) and Batman dragging him (by the hair) off to Arkham.

But that's just it.

Batman and the Joker, for a brief moment, are caught in this bubble where, just for a moment, they are the two crazies in the asylum. Batman is the guy with the flashlight. Joker is the other guy, who does not believe he can't be crazy anymore.

For a moment, Batman is in the world of the Joker, where insanity is the norm. And in a madman's world, there are no good and evil.
They are laughing out loud, but it is raining - so you can't really tell whether they are maybe crying out loud, too.

Batman tried to reach out the Joker earlier on, only to find he was talking to a double. But it was shown he has to try to get a grip on the Joker. To help him not be so crazy.

Also, he remarks that he and the Joker really know nothing about each other, although they have been fighting each other for years.

The Joker believes that sanity is just an illusion we cling to, and even the "sanest" people can be driven to madness by one bad day. But he is wrong, as it turns out.

The Joker is beyond despair. Batman, on the other hand, maintains that there always is hope.

For that one crazy moment, their worlds converge, and they laugh (cry?) together - maybe the only thing they will ever do together.
