Because he secretly wants to quit being Batman. That what he saw in Nanda Parbat is the truth that he's been hiding all along. Or it could be that he's known for years that his parents weren't the saints that he believed them to be. That he made it up in his mind to protect himself from the truth and now that he's faced his demons, he's starting to crumble.


Grudgingly, I see your point.
It just seems that "Bruce as schizo" is laid out there in a very obvious manner, and I would hope Morrison has more subtlety and a bigger payoff in mind.

Robin says he is worried and Batman is off.
Jezebel asks him if the mastermind is...him.
If that's the answer, I will be disappointed that I got geared up for such a softball, that also happens to screw up a character I have enjoyed for 20 years.
I guess we'll see.
