Sorry,

I stopped reading Batgirl after the first arc. I have seen bits of Batgirl on Daily Scans and from what I saw, admitedly a limited sample, my earlier criticisms of Gail's writing still hold. Awful dialogue awkwardly forced character interactions.

Mom shows up in her second appearance and Barb shuts her out, but steals two cranberry muffins because as Babs puts it, "I'm not stupid." Well you like cranberry, which is stupid in my book, can't stand those things.

Babs doesn't do anything resembling normal human behavior. She doesn't ask her mother to explain why she left, didn't fight for custody, didn't write, didn't visit, didn't help with Babs' rehab. No one acts like that outside cheesy soap operas.

Yet again, another villain that's too on the nose for my tastes. Bruce just being too stupid to figure out a pretty easy to figure out villain backstory, but Super Babs can just by googling her.

Again, no explanation why Babs is risking her new-found mobility by being Batgirl. Miller's first three issues were all about setting up why Steph acted the way she did.

What is Babs' job? Don't know. No interaction with her father. The whole Bruce is swell bit read like bad fan fiction. Again, telling not showing. We're told this relationship exists, so we're supposed to buy into it.

They rebooted the DC universe so that we could all start at the beginning, but Batgirl is set up in such a way that she has past relatinships that inform the present, and we have to be shown these relationships in flashbacks. So we don't actually see Bruce be all spiffy with Babs or Dick be all schmoopy with her. Kind of defeats the purpose of rebooting the universe.

Again, perhaps I'm missing something, like I said I haven't read all the issues, just seen samples of them, so if someone were to tell me I could be wrong, I have no retort.

But I could be right.

I read issue 1, didn't like it, so I didn't pick it up. Sorry I haven't been around. I'm happy to discuss Batman though, as it's one of my 3 favorite books out there \:D
