For folks outside of the T'Challa's family line, the herb is lethal. Kasper Kole got a synthesized version of the heart shaped herb from Eric Killmonger. Eric (T'Challa's sworn enemy) did it to anger the Tribal Leaders. T'Challa sort of manipulated the situation to have Eric do it knowing that he would because of his disdain for Wakanda tribal tradition.

It was a tightly woven story of manipulation and end games that lead to Kasper getting his heightened abilities. Of course T'Challa forced him to go through a rite of passage before allowing him to assume the mantle of the White Tiger.

Much respect to Priest for doing his thing on this and other stories in the BP mythos. Smh at Hudlin for unraveling such intelligent storytelling in favor of his Blaxploitation version of BP.

Thanks for the feedback, Redeemed & DamonO.

I also thought I heard of a case in which T'Challa gave the herb to Spiderman to save his life. As a newbie, I'm still in the process of getting BP's back issues. I'm guessing that this may have been in Marvel Team-up #20. (is that right? If so, it's already on my wanted list) Anyway, if that did occur, it probably could be explained way via a "No Prize" (i.e. both the writer and editor goofed) or retconned.

The fact that the herbs can only be taken by someone of the Royal Line helps make the herbs more unique to BP... instead of the next alternative to the Super Solider serum to be synthesized by some villain on a whole scale basis. Not that anyone could have gotten it anyway. (Hmmm... well Doom DID finally manage to steal the vibranium... but I digress.)

Still I didn't expect to hear that he had to take this periodically... like multi-vitamin or performance enhancing supplement. If so, I suppose that gives him a "pseudo" Achille's heel... for which he has to compensate for in the BP: Man Without Fear title.
