Gonna agree with the Hawkeye/Gambit praise. But disagree with the BP/Ro displeasure.
The Black Panther and Storm 'team-up' was character piece fun
- and offers more satisfying closure to their divorce - even if it's not my (go their own) direction choice. The art was vibrant and in once-in-awhile-small-doses a lack of any shadow on the BP suit can be refreshing (once in awhile - didn't Byrne do the same in one his classic FF run issues?). Plus, the detail with native scenery and tech and school and courtwear was creative fun.
Their married relationship was always playful so it seemed fitting their parting would be amicable as opposed to the shocking abruptness of their divorce (poorly) presented during AvX. This way, if a writer (shockingly) wants to put them in a story together again they can be mature superheroes on the job and not cliche bickering divorcees. [Apparently not that Storm will be fighting alongside, or as one of http://24.media.tumblr.com/1e75f680a6d61d0a4bd58527d654c31f/tumblr_meqqfcVMCE1raudpao1_1280.jpg
, the Avengers anytime soon.]
Anyways, not a fan of the recyclable AIM but at least here they offered a reason (contested or not) that they could breach the legendary Wakanda perimeter. Plus, it's just good to finally get a spotlight story on T'Challa again finally - can't wait to see how he is handled in New Avengers!
Comments? (Even comment on the backup story as comparison/compliment if you like?)
I miss my dad.
Your point about getting Storm and T'Challa's first post-marriage meeting in the books is a good one. I was bummed when the A vs X series 'revealed' the couple's infighting and marriage counseling, it seemed so out of the blue. At least the take that they are still in love and friends is being presented and we'll see if any future writers are bold enough to continue this epic love story.(maybe Reed and Sue will try and get them back together)
I loved the little tour of Wakanda: the AIM invasion, the school trip, the Princess-hoochie viewing line...even the 'anti-poaching' message in the background while the two ex-lovers explained their point of views.
And personally, I like the 'inkblot' panther look...like a living shadow.
I just read Hickman's New Avengers #1. This will REALLY be some meat and potatoes for Panther fans. I bet a lot will be added to the Panther mythos with Hick in charge of the King of Wakanda's Necropolis.
