Quote:I think M'Baku has achieved inner circle status in T'Challa's royal court. It's hard to be certain, as we had little to go on. (One quick scene near the end where cast members are standing around the throne, M'Baku among them.) Assuming I've interpreted correctly, I like this development. He's more interesting this way. He also provides an example of another male in the inner court (besides T'Challa himself) who is genuinely noble, as he proved incontestably when he declined the Heart Shaped Herb so it could be used to heal T'Challa.
Quote:When did Man-Ape become noble? Things must have been retconned since I was reading comics. Man-Ape was a member of the Lethal Legion, and determined to kill the Panther. If they made him a hero of sorts, that's wrecking another decent villain(after Klaw's foolish death).
Movies don't always reflect the comics. I like Man-Ape as a villain in the books...but was pleased with how they treated him as a near hero in the movie...so personally I liked this change, felt different yet well done.
Quote:Strange how both the Black Panther and Wonder Woman make use of essentially the same ability - the concussion blast. For Diana it's an expression of her godly lineage. For T'Challa it's probably an application of various properties of vibranium. Yet the practical effect is the same regardless.
Quote:It's called lazy directing. A good action movie requires complex action choreography, and that isn't easy. A poor director will rely on a concussive blast to take out a crowd of villains, rather than do the intricate work of quality hand-to-hand combat. The Russo brothers know how to do it. Jenkins and Coogler don't have the skill. In fact, neither Jenkins or Coogler had any experience directing an action movie before they were handed their jobs. It's no coincidence that the first female and black heroes got a female and black director. Qualifications be damned. Hollywood needs to start treating directing the way the medical industry treats doctors, as specialists. A good dramatic or romantic director doesn't necessarily make a good action director.
While the action was not as good as some of the other MCU movies it wasn't bad. I agree that people should be hired on their talents and skills rather than race/sex/fill in the diversity box in this case I felt the writers and directors and actors did quite a fine job. Not a top 5 MCU movie...but probably in the top 10. And I don't think I actually dislike any of the MCU movies...the worst imo so far have still been at least watchable with moments of real coolness....all the way to absolutely fantastic. No duds...just relative duds...and BP is not a dud imo.
