Reply Subj: So has a comic ever explored how Steve felt about the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

I'm curious what his reaction to that decision would have been.

Hit up "Operation Downfall" on Wikipedia. It summarizes the declassified plans for the land invasion of Japan.

Operation OLYMPIC, set for 1 November 1945 (X-Day) targeted the southern part.

Operation CORONET, set for 1 March 1946 (Y-Day) targeted the northern part, and would have had 26 Divisions landing (D-Day only had twelve, including the floating reserve).

Consider that the US has not made Purple Hearts since 1945 as they still have the stock they expected to have had to hand out as a result of the aforementioned operations, and you get an idea of the casualty estimates. Numbers approached projected 10 million casualties, with the Japanese being virtually wiped out.

Would be a heck of an alternate reality story, Cap and the Invaders landing in Japan in 1945 and 1946.

It wasn't a theory...this was the actual intent of the United States.
