Quote:ugh I hate that idea. Cap's a soldier. He should go down fighting. A lot of boys didn't get the happy ending in WW2.
Quote:Only 2.5% of American military personal died in WWII.
Quote:Which, while those deaths may be tragic, when you consider how brutal that war was, and that WWII was the single greatest loss of life in recorded history, and how many more our allies endured... those are pretty good numbers.
Quote:And I have always viewed Captain America less as a Soldier by mindset than by job.
Quote:Perhaps this is colored by my own experience with WWII vets, but I always thought he was sort o the perfect example of that generation.
Quote:He wanted to serve, he was proud to serve, but e wanted that life after the war. He just wasn't allowed it because of his responsibility.
Quote:Essentially making CAp a sort of tragic figure. No one more deserves the nice home and loving spouse on a quite street with 2.5 kids, more than Steve. The America Dream.
I know this is unforgivable to say...but I think Steve brings it on himself. He could have had those things when he was de-iced. He chooses not to. He could even choose to settle down with a wife and children and still be a hero...but he doesn't. He puts being Cap over everything else in his life.
Does the world need Steve to be Cap or does Steve need to be Cap. I would say it's more the latter than the former.
So I don't want a happy ending for Steve where he settles down with a family. He's always ran from that.
Quote:He just doesn't get it, because he has duties to fulfill, and that he can never walk away from.
Quote:This may be why I liked his relationship with Bernie Rosenthal so much. Yes, she was a very personable, and likable character. However she also focused on Steve Rogers, the man.
Quote:She didn't love Cap, she loved Steve. She was the hope for that peaceful life. She focused on a man... not an icon.
