The thing is though that while the characters might be the same exact characters than and now... Marvel has definitely altered/changed their respective power levels/status over/through he years..

Current Hulk is NOT being shown, as of yet, to be able to do those PC DC levels feats done during the Silver Age of Marvel, and Thor HAS been reduced status/power levels wise since that time period also...
Thor could send Galactus fleeing back than, when the gods WERE the top tiered powers in Marvel, but at present time... Galactus/Celestials etc are ranked over the gods in Marvel power level wise...

Some of this was more artistic than creative, such as the Hulk going from Gray to green overnight but for the vast majority of their history they have been knowable and consistent with change occurring naturally and often only temporarily. That's the point that interests me.

Superman over the years has ALWAYS been "The" Hero in the DCU, CM Mightious Mortal, WW Most power Female, Spectre wrath of God etc...
So DC+ Marvel both have been doing roughly same throughout the years, its just that DC does it on a Universal basis, Crisis's, while Marvel does it through retcons and through pumping up power levels of Cosmics, and lowering the gods, for an example...
Just saying... That still see DC same as Marvel, in this, both get to the same results, just through differing means!
> Kung Fu & Horror made their mark in the 70s while the late 80s & 90s were dark & gritty. Iron Man has moved on from 'Transistors' but it's still armour he wears with broadly the same abilities forming the core of his character.

And?

Sentry is supposedly THE pre-eminent power on earth now... but does any one agree with that?

Just because a new character/concept is introduced who is more powerful or has higher standing does that really affect the power level of Odin or the Hulk? No.
Back in the day Ben Grimm could only lift 5 tons, Hulk only came out in the dark and Invisible Woman could only turn invisible... all in a long ago age a long time ago.
Galactus has gone up and down like a yo-yo but is still one of the most powerful of Marvels cosmic beings today, Thor will also doubtlessly still stalemate the Hulk in any future encounter... I'm not seeing the point in this thread anymore?

DC take a sledgehammer approach to revamps - chuck it in the bin and starting over from scratch, you can't compare the horror of the varying DonnaTroys/Power Girls/Legion of SuperHeroes/Superboys/Hawkmen and Supermen to the naturalistic and plausible evolution of Marvels universe.
Right now I have little or no idea how to view the early years of Wonder Woman or Superman, for just two examples. It used to be airtight since the revamps of 1986 and any changes in backstory such as Zero Hours tinkering could be worked out and absorbed, but now I have only a convoluted patchwork with huge holes in it to work off...
Marvel have never been like that. Thankfully.
