Who said that he "had them" helping as opposed to them joining in on their own.

Actually, looking at the book, after we see her in Herc's full nelson, eleven panels later, we see Herc behind her looking back while Yellowjacket continues to deal with her. Seems that he lets her go when he sees that Thor has been KOed. Thus, he held that full nelson for roughly eleven panels.
