Reply Subj: But Thor's hammer has never really been shown to be more effective than his own fist.

Indeed, if Thor's hammer was really a really hammer-like in terms of its ability to cause damage, Thor would kill people right and left, including the Hulk. I mean, the Hulk has taken blows to the head from Thor's hammer. Whack yourself in the head with even a rubber hammer and see what happens.

I think people vastly overstate the hammer as a bludgeoning weapon. If we assume that what we read is canon, Wonderman hits as hard as Thor's hammer. Does anyone really believe Wonderman hits harder than Thor?

The hammer only becomes an advantage when Thor utilizes its more exotic properties.

Like wise Seeing Superman sent hurtling thru the Forest like a rocket & trailed by lightning FX, a hammer spinning Thor in hot pursuit, is indicative of major Hammer usage. To Cap it all his final move is to put everything into one hoped for finishing blow from a charged mjolnir... Seems like he definitly needed the Hammer in this fight, To me anyway.

considering the books but at the same time it's only logical he hit harder with it and his best stroke in the books are also when with his hammer not his fist. He seem able to hang with any being for a long time without the hammer but winning against the top guys he really needs it for the extra it gives him. Just look at his hulk fights and you can see that without the hammer, althought he'll fight examplary, hulk WILL win. IMO of course...
