Subj: To pick one point out of this rather sweeping debate, I don't think it necessarily took Herc, Wonder Man, She-Hulk, etc. to put Supes down.....

Post Gladiator destroying a planet with punches.

I can do that too, but again this is not his norm. Defalco's Thor would be dead if it was, Ditto Jurgens Thor.... or the Hulk.

Going by your own logic, or lack thereof,

It should be obvious to you that superman's strength level isn't what you think it is, or Thor wouldn't have survived his fight with him in JLAvengers would he?

Is that not the fight where it took Hercules w/mace, Wonderman, Iron Man, She-Hulk etc to finally beat him down by going allout on him?
I mean if you want to take that fight as Gospel think on the implications of that.

And then consider that Superman did what the Hulk can only dream about doing.

The reason Hulk survived his fight with Gladiator is because they are in similiar strength classes. The reason Hulk survived his fight with Drax, is because they are in similiar strength classes.

Err, the reason Hulk survived his fight with Gladiator is likely down to the Heroes Reborn power-up and some crazy plot contrivances!

The reason Thor survived his fight with superman, is because they are pretty much equal in strength.

If they were equal in strength why the Hammer?

I don't dismiss that fight but I have no problem in thinking a determined allout Thor can give superman a serious fight either. I don't know what you think i am but I do not think Superman can drop Thor or the Hulk in one minute flat, I simply point out the fact I see superman as so powerful in the modernday I just can't see an opponent as limited as the Hulk or Thor going the distance, not when Superman track record for physical beatdowns is so staggering in its scale - from minnows like Mammoth to Mangogs like Amalak and Doomsday.

In JLA/Avengers after the Thor/Supes fight.
Yes, they did all jump him and put him down. But was that required to do the deed? We don't have any real way of knowing that. He looked pretty spent, so I tend to think any one of them could have done the job without a tremendous amount of trouble, but that's conjecture.
Unluckily for him, they just all happened to jump in. But I don't think there's anything in the book to suggest they were all needed to finish him off.
Of course, defeating Thor is feat enough and even surviving the en masse attack afterwards is just more proof of why the guy is justly called Superman. But as to whether or not it actually required that much force to do the job, I don't think that was ever stated.
If I have a friend hold up a sheet of typing paper with both hands and then grab a sledgehammer to rip through the paper, well, it does the job but I probably didn't need the sledgehammer.
