Hulk and Thor fans seem to have come to an understanding that BFR is not Thor's way of winning a fight against a rival - to save innocents maybe but not many think Thor would see this as a true victory. So What other ways can Thor use his powers to take down Hulk.

There has been a lot of 'if Thor wasn't playing around and used his full abilities 'statements recently so could I have some clarification of what Thor can do if he wasn't 'playing around' and what if anything Hulk could do to counter.

For example -could Thor , using the hammers energy absorption drain Hulk as Surfer does?

For the record, I think Surfer's ability to drain Hulk of gamma was helped along by Banner. Banner knows Surfer is not a foe, and so will limit Hulk's power access somewhat. The way the Hulk is these days, trying to drain him would be like trying to suck all the water out of a running faucet... it fills up faster than you can drink it away.
Thor's best shot would be a godblast. He has had some good results from lightning in times past, but I think Hulk is beyond that now (We'll most likely see him get up from Zeus' lightning next issue)... or maybe it's just an issue of motivation on Hulk's part. Thor's hammer has a few advantages; the godblast, channeling lightning, and opening dimensional portals... and the obvious upgrade in striking power (Try driving a nail with your fist, then with a hammer). Being that Hulk has consistently withstood hammer blows, we've taken BFR off the board in this post, and lightning is dubious at best, I say godblast is the only real way for Thor to step up his game against big Green.
