That's an interesting point, actually. The last 4 times I can think of an energy drain being levelled against a smart Hulk it hasn't really worked. The Armageddon thing (which is especially impressive when you consider than in his first appearance, he gave the Silver freaking Surfer a lesson in energy manipulation), vs the Spikes (which almost reverted him to Banner, but he satiated the hunger of beings who drain entire stars first... and he Hulked back up again within seconds), vs Darwin (think that's his name) during WWH, and of course the final rematch with Rulk (who, as you point out, had previously had great success using the exact same tactics vs the less intelligent savage Hulk).

That's a pretty consistently good record against that kind of attack, at least from the modern era gravage Hulk.
