Athena didn`t beat Ares head on. During the Trojan War she surprised him as the power behind a mortal warrior that was about to be slain and he was wounded. Athena was someone who was a clear "writer`s favorite" being the patron Goddess of the capital city of the Greek culture itself. And she did that by winning in a game of wits to Poseidon. She was arrogant to that level, by the way, she also called Poseidon out in that contest.

In Book 21 Zeus finally allows the gods to fight in the Trojan War. Ares attacks Athena for revenge due to the earlier incident. It is true that Athena was a favorite among the Greeks and every bit as arrogant as any other god.

Heracles also had thee edge over Hades and another god in one tale, but that may have been an outlier..he was the Superman of Greek mythology. Despise being a demi god he was an unusal one at that - being considerably more powerful than any other and having already strength of higher levels.

Ares also wounded heracles in another tale. I need to find a remark of that in the books I have, but I am sure they squared more than twice.

I don't recall ever reading that, but I admit I may have missed something. It could be one of the rarer tales.

Everyone ran from Typhon. Only Athena in some versions did not. In most only Zeus didn`t. But Athena was extremelly well loved. Extremelly.

Agreed, Athena was perhaps the top female goddess with Zeus being the top god and Poseidon, Apollo, and Hermes being some mix of second and third.
