Maybe not, but it means that he beat someone who is on the same range though. and since indirect comparisons is a big part of what you are talking about, i think it's pretty logical to do so. Of course, direct comparisons set more of a "norm", so i get that you want things to be spelled out and directly shown. There are plenty of stories where Superman and Cap Marvel are considered peers and equals on a norm, but those apparently are not good enough because in specific occasions the result was more to your liking, right? nevermind there are occasions when Cap Marvel defeated Superman as well like in All Star Squadron 9, JLA 36 and JLA/JSA Virtue and Vice...those don't count because they don't fit your point, right? when i say someone is a peer or has a similar range, i mean exactly that, so no result is foregone beforehand, it all depends on the context. But the potential use of the character concept permits a peer to win in a specific enough condition, even just based on mindset and feelings at the time of the battle. Some versions of Shazam could very well be enough to beat Darkseid on their own, just like some wouldn't. Some versions of Darkseid punked Superman like he was nothing after all, but i don't think it's impossible for his character concept to ramp up to a point where he could beat him... | |||||||
