        You see, the contest was if Hulk can even move Superman. Not that he was becoming stronger than Superman.

    No, the strange DUEL was in doubt. A duel is a fight. The fight itself was becoming in doubt because of the Hulk's geometrically increasing strength. The omniscient narrator is telling you that the Hulk is approaching PC Superman's level of strength so that there is an increasing possibility of Hulk beating him. Nor does it matter that it was an external artificial device making Hulk angry. The fact remains that if sufficiently provoked, Savage Hulk can approach PC Superman in strength.

But Superman wasn't fighting Hulk, the only duel was if Hulk could even move Superman.

It isn't saying Hulk is reaching Superman in strength though. Where is it stated?
