Reply Subj: I don't take it as a given that Conan wins...he probably does, but in the literature, he did have peers

    Quote:
Ser Mandorallen, the Baron of Vo Ebor from the Belgariad seemingly had no peers in battle, for instance...though I guess it could be argued that the Belgariad is more high fantasy than Sword and Sorcery, so I guess it depends on what you're talking about.

    Quote:
Shonsu, from the 7th sword trilogy was a beast, and was surpassed by Nanji, though their preoccupation with honorable combat probably handicaps them a bit against someone like Conan.

    Quote:
Durendal from the Kings Blades series is a contender.

    Quote:
How about the best blademasters from the Wheel of time, where do they rank? I think you could have a long, legit argument about who is the best in that book alone, between Lan and maybe Galad and Gawyn (the number of blademasters annoying Gawyn killed was unheard of)

    Quote:
Does Wesley from the Princess Bride count?

    Quote:
How about this one...we all know that Star Wars is effectively Sword and Sorcery in space...how about Mace Windu?

    Quote:
My favorite of all of them is probably Shonsu, or rather Wally Smith as Shonsu, but then, he's surpassed by Nanji at the end, and Nanji is too honorable to necessarily be the favorite against someone like Conan.....

He's killed trolls, giants, warlocks, hordes of Orcs and Skaven.

He's beaten a Bloodthirster of Khorne, survived a 300 foot drop off a cliff.

His damage soaks puts Punisher, Conan, Dredd to shame (that's right LGU - I went there). : )
