Hold on, are you comparing Superman/Thor to Spider-Man/Firelord? Superman straight up overpowered Thor. Spider-Man was presented as a huge underdog who won by skin of his teeth.
Quote:Second, you assume that Superman beating Thor in one comic makes it a settled issue in what was a very close fight, one that Busiek himself has said could have gone either way. And sure, this one fight's result is Busiek's opinion, but other writers like Byrne have disagreed. Fans who have just as much knowledge as Busiek on the two characters are free to agree or disagree. The comic in no way invalidates those who have a different opinion. Spider-Man beat Firelord in a fight. Does that mean nobody can argue that Firelord should win? Of course not, but that's what you're saying here. There are a hundred fights in comics where arguably the person who won shouldn't have won.
Quote:What is your point?
It wasn't like Superman performed an upset win and isn't a favorite to do so again.
If anything Thor performed vastly better than usual because Busiek is a big fan of Thor.
Quote:And it wasn't just Busiek's opinion. Both Marvel and DC editors confirmed it and believed Superman would defeat Thor. If another writer wrote it and a winner was to be decided, it would again be Superman because both companies agreed on it.
Quote:You're mistaking a business decision for an aesthetic one. And your second speculation is nonsensical. Thor is nearly as popular as Superman now thanks to the movies and so Marvel would have incentive not to have him lose. The latest Thor movie grossed nearly $200 million more than a movie featuring the entire Justice League including Superman.
It wasn't a business decision. Marvel wasn't benefitting from the decision to have Superman ko Thor.
By that logic Iron man shouldn't lose any fights at all. If anything he is shown less powerful than before the movie.
And Thor isn't nearly as popular as Superman. Don't be absurd.
