Both those battles have to be seen in context. Gladiator surprised Thor and once he got the hammer and decided gladiator was a threat to innocents Thor quits holding back and literally makes him eat pavement. Thor beats the crud out of him the entire and decisive second round even Gladiator admits it to the Tomorrow man.

Gladiator surprised Thor after pages of fight where he makes it clear he is ready for Gladiator?

How is that surprising Thor?

Gladiator fought Tarene in between and Thor had time to recover. Even then it took several hammer shots and energy blasts to momentarily down Gladiator at which point Tarene finished him off.

The second occurs when Jane knocks Gladiator down and naively stops to ask what is happening when he grabs her. A serious mistake for sure and that is the best thing I can say about that one.

Considering she started the fight with a blatant lightning suckerpunch and Gladiator straight up choked her out, fair fight all around.

Odinson didn't look that strong against Jane anywhere.

I have the issue right here. Gladiator is disguised when he first appeared. Thor is fighting but Gladiator kicks the hammer away. Thor reverts to Jake Olson. Tarene jumps in and Thor gets his hammer back and from that point on COMPLETELY dominates Gladiator. He has Gladiator down is picking him up by the mohawk. The airplane in trouble saves Gladiator as they work to save it then Gladiator comes after Thor and gets his butt handed to him by Thor. Gladiator eats pavement and the fight is over. Tarene shows up when Gladiator is down and out with a bolt of power as a bit of revenge for the earlier battle. Thor says he was holding back and Gladiator admits Thor was to powerful for him. You cherry pick a page and ignore the rest of the book.
The Jane fight went just like I said as well. Frankly I don't care for her so that one is fine.
