Quote:I am on record for being loathe to take what creators say into account on how to interpret what happens in comics. I don't think what they say is canon. I think they often say whatever their audience wants to hear. Sometimes they even change their mind about what their initial intentions were when writing the comic. That said, I think what writers or editors say can be admissible, when a comic is vague on what happened and what they say clarifies the comic and makes sense. If anyone out there reading this thread thinks a case has not been made for either side based on all the canonic scans and evidence, below is Dan Jurgens' take on Darkseid's, Doomsday's, and Superman's relative power levels. It's an interview done for this very board. Jurgens is one of the most prominent Superman writers ever. Jurgens affirms that without prep and strategy, Darkseid would lose to Doomsday every time. He affirms that Superman and Doomsday are roughly equivalent in terms of power, that both Superman and Doomsday can survive Darkseid's omegas, that Darkseid is "far less powerful than Superman," and that "in terms of sheer power, it's clear that Superman and Doomsday are both above Darkseid." Take that for what you think it's worth.
Quote:Funny thing is that Jurgens actually had Darkseid defeat Doomsday with omega beams. Doomsday emerged from the rubble and attacked Darkseid from behind.
Doomsday wasn't defeated. He just got knocked into a structure and buried by rubble. He dug out right away and then beat Darkseid to the point that he would have died had Superman not come along with a motherbox.
Quote:Darkseid also oneshots Cyborg Superman who Jurgens wrote as an equal to Superman and destroy missiles Superman couldn't scratch while at a weakened state.
Quote:Superman also couldn't even slow down Doomsday twice, he was shown as far less powerful than Doomsday. Certainly not his equal.
In one instance, but obviously in the DOS story, he was Doomsday's equal. And Superman has looked superior in other instances.
Quote:What's even more interesting is that Jurgens stated Superman is millions of times more powerful than Thor. I guess that must be true too.
Funny thing is that statement is the only thing from the interview that Jurgens retracted.
See, I'm not even saying I agree with Jurgens. I think Darkseid should be more powerful than Superman. But plainly one of Superman's pre-eminent writers thinks differently, which just happens to directly and grossly contradict your take that Darkseid is a skyfather-level being who can defeat Superman-level foes easily.
