What was Russia's population at its peak? I mean the population of Russia itself (although not necessarily just ethnic Russians, I mean the whole population), not the Russian Empire or the Soviet Union. I know that right now Russia's population is a little over 140 million and that at the end of the Cold War it was 148 million. Was it ever higher than that at any point?

Not really. The highest population happened approximately in 1992, with an estimated population of 148,704,300. At the moment, they're losing about 500,000 a year. It's predicted that in 40-50 years (by 2050), Russia's population will be about 121million. That's why they've made a national holiday to make babies.
