I would definitely agree with this when it comes to the situations and subject matter on our TV series, but not so much when it comes to fashion, especially on our network television.
For instance (choosing this example because I'm watching it right now), I don't know any hospital in our country that would tolerate a doctor like House, and although there are technical advisers, the situations are extreme, but his and the other characters on House
dress appropriately. The situations in our sitcoms may be outlandish and exaggerated, but generally, the characters dress "normally."
