has less to do witht he discs -- the new players upconvert the old DVDs, as has been said -- than with the way we're all being forced to buy either an HD-TV or a ridiculously pricey converter box next year just to have something that can display the input. And what about watching Blu-Ray or HD-DVDs on your computer?

It's the forced hardware upgrade I'm ticked off about more than anything.

HDTV's arent being forced on you. Buying one is completely optional. HDTV's are only needed if you have HD cable/satellite or HD dvds. Both of those are optional as well. Regular DVDs and regular cable channels will both be available for years to come.

Cable channels are suppose to go digital in 2009, and you will either need a digital tv or buy an converter box. But the government will refund the cost of the converter box if you have to buy one.

Again, I don't see anything being forced, except maybe the digital cable, which is being set by the government.
