And what about watching Blu-Ray or HD-DVDs on your computer?

Optional until new movies only come out in the HD formats, anyway. And yes, I realize that in a strict sense buying dvds is itself "optional," but I hope to high free market heaven that consumers just say no to HD and Blu-Ray for a good long while.

I hope so.

I've been ticked about that law ever since it was passed, to be honest. I don't want the hassle of getting a converter box and going through whatever useless rigamarole I have to go through to get the cost refunded just to watch cable.

It's the government I'm complaining about.

You only need a box if you have an analog TV and use an antenna to watch the over-the-air channels. If you have cable or satellite, or have a digital TV, you're fine. The government is making this more confusing than it needs to be. It's estimated that less than 20 million people rely on over-the-air television, so most people will not be effected.

However, if you do need a converter box for you TV, you can request up to 2 $40 coupons for your purchase.
