> I'm sorry, but this notion that people should have complete control over their finances yet want a stable government is egocentric nonsense. If the government doesn't take steps to help people in need then what's the point of having a government or law? Let's just have anarchy where only the strong survive.

What's wrong with it is I shouldn't be forced to share mine with someone that doesn't want to put in an effort to make a living on their own. When I met with the career counselor in high school I don't recall him mentioning the "collect govt check and make a daily trip to the 7-11 for beer and cigarettes" occupation.

Yes, I will concede that not all lower income individuals fall into that generalization and I am accepting of programs that help those that put in an honest days work but just don't make enough. I'm not heartless after all. My life experiences have brought me into contact with enough people, some of which are relatives, that view the govt as their employer and not looking for work as their job description. Personally, based on performance review I do not care to give them a pay raise.

Instead of raising taxes maybe they should consider finding ways to get the deadbeats off the "payroll" so there is more money to go around for those that make a valid effort at being a productive member of society but still need a hand up. I'm tired of handouts.
