To put it simply although our brains are now larger then when we were running through the forest/jungle avoiding large predators and looking for food, but we never lost those survival instincts. Humans only use 10 percent of our brains but all of our ancient animal instincts are stored within our brains and when the situation arises that part of the brain activates and since the brain controls the body the body reacts. So in conclusion I would say yes, It's all about the chemical process of the brain.....
