> I don't really know squat about that time period. But going off of what you say it seems like you're not looking at both sides. For example, you say we lost something by taking our missiles out of Turkey (an interesting fact I didn't know) but with that definition of "lost" then Russia lost something as well by taking missiles out of Cuba.

A quick timeline

US puts missiles in Turkey

US attacks Cuba, which Cuba didn't like

Cuba says "Screw You" and hooks up with Russia

Russia says "sure we will help you out, but you have to take these missiles and aim them at the US" Cuba didn't want to do this, but Russia made them.

US says don't aim those missiles at us, and take them away.

Russia says sure, but only if you take yours away too.

Both agree to take missiles away.

So again, look at the situation before and after the Cuban Missile Crisis. The US lost that advantage.

> And considering that the Cold War had been going on for awhile at that point I'm not sure how much you can blame JFK.

Alot of blame can be put on JFK for it's escalation though.

And Kennedy also met with Khrushchev (Russia leader) without preconditions. JFK was easily "defeated" in the meeting, and realized that not having pre-conditions was a huge mistake. JFK even said that Khrushchev "just beat the hell out of me".
