Every now and then I get this dream (god I hope its a dream) where I'm sleeping. I'm sleeping and I just woke up, and I try to get out of bed. As I try to move out of bed there is this semi-visible force holding me down. I usually try to move my arms first, but there is a resistance, like they are being pushed back down. It is a clear physical sensation of being forced down. As I continue to struggle the force starts taking on visible characteristics. I usually see an outline of a form. Sometimes it will manifest sinister looking eyes, and jagged teeth. Occassionally it will taunt me with the voices of my freinds and familly.

Sometimes I succeed at moving against it. I will sit up sometimes and others I will actually find myself taking several steps away from my bed, just to find myself back in a prone possition being forced back down a moment later.

Other times I will realize that I am dreaming, and open my eyes. I'll go for a glass of water or something, just to get half way to the kitchen before appearing back in my bed. I only dreamed that I woke up.

I guess the worse part of this dream is that the force feels so real, it really feels like i'm resisting a downward pressure inorder to move. . . that and the fact that for the first several seconds after waking up, I'm still not convinced I'm awake.

I've had weird dreams in the past, and caught myself trying to say something aloud to wake myself up. I'd HEAR myself, and was aware of myself dreaming, but couldn't wake myself completely up!

The weird thing is, it was always the SAME dream!

I'd fall asleep (in real life), but then dream I was walking around my apartment. I'd walk OVER my dog (she would sleep in the hall outside my room), and make my way to the front door. Somehow, I'd launch myself into the sky, and fly around treetops for awhile. Then, I'd actually go higher in the sky. I'd look down and see skyscrapers' rooftops! I'm TERRIFIED of heights, and refused to look down for awhile. Instead, I'd aim myself HIGHER and fly into the nightsky. I'd look down again, and see the Earth below me!

Around this point, I'd FINALLY wake myself up. Now, I haven't had dreams like this in about 5 years or more, but I'd have 'em pretty often when I was a teenager, into my early forties.

I've never understood why I used to have such dreams or why they just quit. \:\)
