I would disagree. It seems that people group themselves and others into preselected groups based on regions and their associated cultures. Obviously there are example of groups determined by cities and states, but I think it extends into regions as well.

Think of the people who state they are from the Midwest, or are Midwesterners. Or the people who consider themselves from the West Coast. These are both geographical regions, but there is a culture attached to them as well. We even have the "Left Coast".

I just don't think these regions have any true symbols, flags or otherwise, to represent their areas.
