Are black people's racial antennae too fine tuned or does most of America see anything less than n bombs being dropped as simply protected speech?

Sometimes one, sometimes the other. Lots of times I think it's a bit of both.

No doubt there are some blacks who "play the race card" and couldn't care less if it's true or not. I believe it's a small minority, but there are some.

And also no doubt there are some whites who just don't get it and have no clue how subtle racism can be. Probably also a minority, but (JMNSHO) not quite as small.

Every person is indeed entitled to her/his opinion, but I do think people in the advantaged group need to be especially careful in claiming that the other group is not experiencing prejudice. And that doesn't just apply to whites/blacks and racism. The same goes for any nationalities/ethnicities and racism. It also applies to men/women and sexism, to straight people denying homophobia exists, and to religious persecution as well.
