Bacterial computing is, in my opinion, the path that will lead to true artificial intelligence, for three reasons:

    1. The incredible speed

    2. The ability for the computer to grow organically on its own

    3. My intuition that only from living processes can sapience (minds like ours) emerge.

Dude our It Department better not get one...if it weren't for computers being inherently shitty I wouldn't have my job.

Years ago I became fascinated about an obscure article about a Russian computer built in 1958 called the Setun. Instead of using your typical 2-value binary logic it used ternary/trinary (3-value) logic.

I always wondered what would have happened if ternary computing had caught on. We have done a lot with binary computing so much so that there's not much point in dumping it all to try ternary computing but I wonder what would happen if you were able to build like an entire computer network where the code for the operating systems, the electrical systems etc all worked on the principle of 3 state logic. If I ever become a billionaire it's an experiment I want to see come to fruition.
