I know I know I should ask this on the movie board but to me this board is the place where we get the most interesting discussions about racism and other hot button issues but I understand completely if this post gets deleted.
What did the minority posters think about Avatar? I personally thought the movie was the same type of cliche we always get with movies like Dances With Wolves or The Last Samurai. A white man lives amongst another culture becomes accepted by them and becomes their greatest champion.
Do minorities hate these type of movies as much as I do or am I racist because these type of movies push my buttons or is it something else? I don't just see it as condescending to other races but I feel it's just as condescending to white people...like why are there all these movies about white men fantasizing about joining other races?
I seem to remember Thorfan (I think it was him) asking about white guilt a while back. Is that what these movies are? Do we fantasize about joining another race because we're not happy being white?
Expecially with the trailers and the little reviews I had heard . . . Ok another movie about how the Evil Corperate/Millitary Culture is so inferior to the nature loving hippies.
Anyways I didn't see it as a "white savior" thing, I guess you can consider him getting his new ride as him being the best of them, but I didn't consider it that way. I think the reason why he was so effective at the end was that he knew the enemy [all us americans] and knew how to fight us.
