But in order to become the leader of the natives, he performed their greatest feat, an accomplishment of mythic proportions: he rode the dragon-thing. That, to me, was bizarre, given the fact that he was the newest of all newbies at riding anything at all.

But he had been dreaming of flying his whole life. He was a natural, that was supposed to be the point. And he had the balls to take the risks the others didn't.

How is that supposed to be the point? How did this stranger in one act show more skill than everyone in the Navi race? So what if he dreams of flying. I'm sure the Navi dreamt of flying when they were younger too. I think it was absurd that in what a few weeks an outsider was able to master something no one outside of a handful in the entire Navi history had been able to do.

Maybe the sequel can have him dream about swimming so he can master whatever whale creatures they have on Pandora.

On a side note, I thought it was weird that we didn't get to see him conquer the dragon-thing. We saw him dive onto it, but then the scene changed and we never saw the battle for supremacy, maybe because the director didn't think it could be portrayed in a believable manner.

I think that's more of a movie convention. Leave the audience wondering whether or not he succeeded up until the moment he arrives victorious.
