You mean soft drinks and junk food are still in American schools? That was removed from Canadian schools (or at least Manitoba schools) years ago.

The easiest way to drive the cost of health care down is to increase the funding for prevention. I sit on a committee called the Chronic Disease Prevention Initiative, and we help fund groups that encourage physical activity, nutrition, and smoking cessation. You could invest a fraction of what goes into health care into preventative programs and it would decrease the cost of health care many times over.
