I just don't like the idea of 'Big Brother' running your life more than they already do. Do you really want a bunch of Politicians in Washington telling you if you can have that quadruple bypass surgery or something?

Dont be stupid.

In the UK and I dare say in all other countries that have universal healthcare if you NEED a quadruple bypass you get one as soon as one can be provided.

If I fall off my chair laughing my ass off at just how ill informed your assumptions are and break my leg I'll be rushed to a hospital and receive whatever treatment I require to make a full recovery and more than likely be back home to read your next stupid comment before the end of the evening.

A Doctor makes the decision what treatment I receive and he makes that decision based on what I actually require NOT on what level of treatment the government tells him he can dispense.

If your on the Governments Health care plan, I can only imagine how much they will try to interfere in people lives trying to force them to eat Healthy and perhaps even forced Doctor visits and even house calls.

Living in a country with UHC I can tell you as a fact that our government cannot and never has directly forced its citizens to eat healthy nor does our government have any power to send a Doctor round to your house to ensure that you are.

What our government can do and does do when it comes accross something it sees as a problem such as child obeisity, smoking or drinking is the same as what I dare say every other democratic government does - they offer incentives for people to change their ways and apply pressure indirectly through things such as taxes on alcohol and tobacco.

The free market is the most sacred thing we have. Without it, there would be no advances in technology, competition Between AMD and Intel have lead us to these 3ghz processors, competition between Nvidia and Ati has also lead to these massive graphics cards we have now.

Its not an either/or situation. In the UK our NHS lives in harmony next to the private healthcare system.

I'm sure competition has done a lot for laser treatment in the medical sector as well and I for one would like to see technology keep progressing. The Government cannot (here's a word I bet MOST of you hate) constitutionally force you to buy anything like it's trying to do now with Health Care reform.

Well thats like saying the government cant make you pay taxes.

If your government supplies a service like universal healthcare like my government does then you can bet your bottom dollar that they can constitutionally 'force' you to pay for it. I simply hope that if they go ahead and do it that they create a system that is at least value for money like ours is. I dont mind paying taxes so long as I feel my money is being well spent.
