I find the discourse here to be intelligent and well-constructed. A lot of political discussions on other boards quickly devolve into trolling, name-calling and a legion of posters who are clearly paid by the parties to swing the popular opinion their way. Here it's like a quiet, private corner to have an intelligent conversation.
Yes, it largely swings left here. Maybe it's up for debate, but I think comics raised me to be liberal. Those who do argue on the right here are equally intelligent, in my opinion. Sumidor, for example, is a great addition, because he argues his points rationally and (almost) convincingly. There was one right-leaning poster whose posts were really just tantrums, but I think he has been blocked. I consider myself a centrist, but let's be honest - a centrist in Canada would be considered extremely liberal by either party in the United States.
Anyway, I enjoy this little troll-free corner of the web. I don't always respond to posts, but usually that means I'm not all that invested in the topic.
Pretty much the same. I usually avoid comment sections on liberal sites because they tend to be little more than echo chambers, while my attempts to present opposing views on conservative sites in the past was met with insults, to put it mildly ... though to be fair, I've seen the same sort of insults thrown at anyone critical on liberal sites too.
It really does feel like this is one of the few places where opposing views can be discussed, at the very least, with some civility, even if the debaters don't always agree.
